A 1999 study found 7.8% carrier frequency among 436 clinically normal Irish Setters tested (up from a pre-testing estimate of over 30%), with systematic carrier testing since driving the rate toward near-zero in tested populations (Suber et al. 1999, Journal of Heredity).
